Bank Robbery Arrest
On Thursday afternoon, March 8, 2012 at approximately 1:09 p.m., the Bethlehem Police 9-1-1 Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call from inside the Wells Fargo Bank at West Fourth Street and Broadway in Bethlehem. A female caller reported a possible robbery in progress. The caller indicated that a male was inside the bank and handed a teller a note inidacting he wanted the one hundred dollar bills.
Police units responded to and surrounded the bank within three minutes. Officers responded from the Patrol platoon, the Special Operations Unit, the Street Crimes Unit, the Criminal Investigations Bureau and the Highway Patrol Unit. There were officers in very close proximity to the bank serving a warrant for an unrelated robbery investigation.
The male was still inside the bank and police units quickly took the male into custody without incident. The male has been identified as Richard Dewey Powell, age 36, no known address. No one was injured in this incident and no funds were lost.
Richard Dewey Powell will be arraigned later this date on a charge of Robbery and committed to Northampton County Prison for further court action.
